Day 3 –Dambulla/ Sigiriya/ Minneriya/Dambulla

Breakfast at the hotel.

Proceed to climb the famous Sigiriya Rock Fortress..

Sigiriya Rock Fortress - A "World Heritage Site" and the "Fortress in the Sky" from the 5th century, which is perhaps the most fantastic wonder of the island. It is also known as Lion Rock due to the huge lion that stood at the entrance to the palace on the top of the 600 foot high rock. On its top are the foundations of the Royal Palace, the Cisterns for water supply and all the other buildings and the guards on the edges. Up one of the stairs has survived the only known ancient work of Sinhalese secular painting in the form of frescoes of 21 life-size bridesmaids that still shine in their original colors. Don't miss the water gardens, fountain garden, summer houses, Boulder gardens and caves within the gated area.

Later in the afternoon, go for a Wild Life Safari at Minneriya National Park.

Minneriya National Park – This Park is situated at the center of the Cultural Triangle, Minneriya is a good alternative to the busier parks in the south and it's easy to weave in a day here between visiting the ancient cities. The dry season, from June to September, is the best time to visit the 8,890-hectare park when the ancient tank that dominates the area dries out and the grasses and shoots push through.

On completion, return to the hotel and relax.

Overnight Stay in Dambulla

Day 4 –Dambulla/Matale/ Kandy

After breakfast leave for Kandy (78 kms – Approx. 2 ½ hrs drive) also making a visit to the Cave Temples in Dambulla.

Dambulla - is a vast isolated rock mass 500 feet high and a mile around the base. Here is found the famous Rock Temple dating to the First Century B.C. The caves of Dambulla sheltered King Walagamba during his 14 years of exile from Anuradhapura. When he regained the throne he built the most magnificent of Rock Temples to be found in the Island.

Make a visit also to the Spice gardens in Matale.

Matale This midsize regional city at the heart of the island lies in a broad, fertile valley at an elevation of 300m. Matale is a featureless urban sprawl with a congested one-way system, so you're unlikely to want to linger long. However, the road north of town is lined with dozens of visitor-friendly spice plantations where vanilla, rubber, cinchona, jackfruit, cocoa and cardamom thrive. The area is also famous for kohila (a type of watercress) and small, mild chillies. After visiting Matale Spice Garden.

Upon arrival to Kandy make a city tour of Kandy

Kandy City Tour - The hill capital. Venue of the annual Perahera. The last stronghold of the Sinhala Kings was finally ceded to the British in 1815. Kandy is an example of the Buddhism’s influence in Sri Lanka today. Temple’s shrines and monasteries keeping alive Buddhist traditions are everywhere.

Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic - Ever since 4th Century A.D, when the Buddha’s Tooth was brought to Sri Lanka hidden from sacrilegious hands in an Orissan princess’ hair, the Relic has grown in repute and holiness in Sri Lanka and throughout the Buddhist world. It is considered Sri Lanka’s most prized possession.

Center of the lake is the island called "Kiri Samudraya" (milky White Ocean) used by kings as a summer residence. Today it is the center of Buddhism, arts, crafts, dance, music and culture. Visitors can see these dances and music during the daily cultural performances held in different places in the city.

Overnight Stay in Kandy

Day 5 – Kandy / Colombo

After breakfast leave for Peradeniya Royal Botanical Gardens.

We will visit PERADENIYA Royal Botanical Garden. A few kilometres from the city of Kandy are the Royal Botanical Gardens - Peradeniya, claimed to be the best in Asia and one of the best of its kind in the world. Dating back to 1371, when King Wickremabahu kept the court at Peradeniya, the groundwork for its conversion as a botanical garden was formulated by Mr. Alexander Moon in 1821. A special attraction is a tree planted by King George V and Queen Mary of the United Kingdom in 1901 referred to as the Cannon Ball as a result of the fruit it bears. The garden is famous for its orchid house which comprises more than 300 varieties of exquisite orchids. The spice garden and the palm trees are some of its other interesting features

Thereafter transfer to Colombo (120 kms – Approx. 3 hrs drive)

Upon arrival to Colombo proceed on a city tour of Colombo.

Colombo – is the business and commercial center and the new capital is Sri Jayawardhanapura Kotte, which is only a few miles away. Colombo was only a small seaport, which came into prominence in the 16th Century with the arrival of the Portuguese in 1505 and the development of it as a major Harbour during the British period and became the capital in 1815 after Kandy was ceded to the British. The remains of the buildings during the period and the Portuguese, Dutch and British rule are found in every area of the city. None of the Portuguese & Dutch fortifications are found today but some of their buildings and churches could be seen in the Fort & Pettah areas. Visit Fort, the former British administrative center and military garrison, Sea Street - the Goldsmith’s quarters in the heart of Pettah, the Bazaar area where there is also a Hindu Temple with elaborate stone carvings, the Kaymans Gate with the Belfry at the original gate to enter the Fort, the Dutch Church of Wolfendhaal dating back to 1749, are some of the sites to be visited.
